My Raffle Painting for the Mill Fundraiser

The Mill charity postcard raffle is over so I can reveal my 'mystery' painting.

The Greatest Little Art Show 2

I have made a small painting especially for this secret-postcard fundraising art event in aid of The Mill and Forest Churches Emergency Night Shelters. It is a secret so you will have to guess which is mine.

Exhibition: 8 September – 1 October 2016
Raffle draw: 1 October.
Online raffle sales close 30 Sept at 6pm sharp.

"The Greatest little Art Show & Raffle 2" 
100 postcard-sized pieces of art to raffle, donated by local special needs school children, artists, local luminaries and a very famous street artist. 

The funds raised this year will help pay our rent and keep us open to all for another year, also help pay for up to 50 local people to have a warm bed for the night in the emergency night shelter.

The exhibition and raffle runs 8th September until 1st October.  Private view, Thursday 8th September 6.30-9.30 
There's also a closing gala, Saturday 1 October 10-4 at The Mill, there will be mocktails, cake and of course the raffle which starts at 2pm.  All the postcards will be on display, you can meet most of the artists and you'll be the first to taste our new mocktails- The Mill Mojito & The Coppermill Sunset.

After the Sea

After The Sea
An exhibition on the seafront in Margate.
29 September - 30 October 2016

Look out of the window of Bernie’s Chocolate Bar and you’ll see the shining Margate sands, the sea and across the harbour the Turner Contemporary. Inside, for the whole month of October, the walls will be filled with work by two artists: Julie Caves (that's me) and H Locke. The exhibition will include over 30 paintings, drawings and prints.

Having set up a studio in Margate in 2014, Julie Caves and H Locke spend a lot of time by the sea – beachcombing, painting and drawing – with regular pit stops in Bernie’s to defrost from the off-season wintery seaside weather. They have explored Margate and Cliftonville during the recent years of transition for the area and this has heavily influenced the work they are showing.

Project Two Thousand And Fourteen

Project Two Thousand And Fourteen

On each day of the year, a different visual practitioner will create a new piece of 2D work interpreting an event that has been broadcast in the news that particular day. Each day, the new work will be uploaded on to this site and posted to a linked twitter account by 9pm each evening. In the process developing a collection of 365 new works together creating a narrative for the year 2014 based on reported events.

Cultivate Exhibition extended

My guest artist spot at Cultivate Evolved has been extended through Friday Jan 17th. So you can still get by to see my big painting plus the loads of other great work in the gallery!

This includes a late evening opening this coming Wednesday Jan 15th when Cultivate, Vyner Street will be open until 9pm and Wilkinson Gallery will be re-opening for the new year with two shows in their big space.

I will be presenting a short illustrated talk at the next meeting on Nov. 30th of the Colour Group of Great Britain. BLUE - the World's Favourite Colour will have many speakers - all about blue. I will be talking about painting blue skies.

Freya Douglas-Morris

Freya Douglas-Morris makes gorgeous paintings. Dreamy landscapes created from combining partial memories of places.
She has a wonderful understanding of colour as evidenced in her painting Water Lillies.

I met her yesterday at an arts event. We hit it off right away and started talking about painters we like. We simultaneously said that Peter Doig's early work and Chris Ofili's recent work are both gorgeous and somehow related. Although our paintings are different Freya and I are on the same wavelength!

Speaking of which: does anyone know where I can see images (or the real thing) of Ofili's 2009/2010 paintings?

Open Studio Dates!

The Open Studio dates for my new studio group have been announced.

My hands are my palette

I often use my hands as a palette when painting with acrylics. Here is an example at the CREATE Conference in France in February.
